Biography
Born in Bristol, England, Neil Davidge has built a multifaceted career as a producer, composer, and singer while maintaining a close creative partnership with Massive Attack. Following his college studies in art, he entered the music industry in the early 1990s alongside Nick Batt and Neal Slateford as part of the dance collective DNA. Subsequent production and remix assignments came for Exposé, Kim Appleby, and Rozalla, after which he initiated his long-term association with Massive Attack in 1995 by helming the trip-hop outfit’s contribution to the Batman Forever soundtrack—a rendition of “The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game” featuring vocals from Tracey Thorn of Everything But the Girl. He later oversaw the group’s 1998 album Mezzanine, its 2003 release 100th Window, and the 2004 soundtrack to Danny the Dog, which reached American theaters in 2005 under the title Unleashed. The year 2009 found him scoring the science-fiction film Push, and he rejoined Massive Attack in 2010 for Heligoland. When Halo 4 launched in 2012, its Davidge-composed score entered the Billboard Top 200 at number 50—the highest position ever achieved by a video-game soundtrack—prompting both a set of remixes and a follow-up volume. In 2013 he revealed plans for a solo album featuring guest appearances by Sandie Shaw, Emi Green, and Cate Le Bon; the resulting Slo Light appeared the following year on the 7Hz label.
