Deanna Bogart, a singer and barrelhouse pianist, pulled from an assortment of influences that spanned boogie-woogie, New Orleans R&B, swing, and rock & roll, positioning herself among the most wide-ranging artists working in contemporary blues. She entered the world in Detroit in 1960 and first sharpened her abilities on the Maryland blues circuit, where she built an engaging performance approach that frequently had her rising from the piano bench to speak directly with listeners. Known for her signature black fedora, Bogart also displayed strong command of the tenor saxophone. Equally accomplished as a songwriter, she brought out her initial album, Out to Get You, in 1991, then issued Crossing Borders the following year; a four-year break came before New Address arrived on Lightyear. She handled the release of Timing Is Everything herself in 2003, after which Real Time appeared on Blind Pig Records in 2006. Vista Music put out 11th Hour in 2009.
