Biography
Beginning at the age of nine, Dick Garcia mastered the electric guitar through self-instruction prior to receiving any formal lessons. His first documented professional work arrived in 1950 with Tony Scott’s quartet, followed by associations lasting until the mid-’50s alongside Charlie Parker, George Shearing, and Joe Roland. He rejoined Scott for both performances and sessions in 1955 while also cutting sides with Milt Buckner, Lenny Hambro, his own ensembles, Johnny Glasel, and Bobby Scott. Garcia’s activity persisted into the ’60s, encompassing further tours and recordings with Shearing and Kai Winding.
