Chicago's Do or Die scored their breakthrough via the debut single Po Pimp. Issued on a modest local imprint, the cut caught on regionally and prompted Houston's Rap-A-Lot Records to ink the trio. After a broader push in summer 1996, the track climbed to number 22 and built anticipation for a complete project. Rap-A-Lot delivered that project, Picture This, the following September. The group resurfaced in spring 1998 with the follow-up Headz or Tailz, then issued Victory two years afterward. Back 2 the Game (2002) and Pimpin' Ain't Dead (2003) found traction in Chicago and along the West Coast even as national radio outlets largely overlooked the act. D.O.D. arrived in 2005 carrying featured turns from R. Kelly, Kanye West, and Twista in a bid to reverse that trend. One year later the trio shifted course entirely, issuing the raw, street-focused Get That Paper whose only outside voice was Bun B.
