Down 'n' Outz drew from their rock heritage to shape a classic sound, first surfacing in 2010 with the Mott the Hoople-inspired debut My ReGeneration and later asserting independence on the 2019 follow-up This Is How We Roll.

Def Leppard's Joe Elliot joined forces with Raw Glory's Ronnie Garrity, the Quireboys' Paul Guerin and Guy Griffin along with Keith Weir and hard rock drummer Phil Martini to back Mott the Hoople on the closing date of their 2009 tour, delivering a program of related material to the crowd. The performance prompted the musicians to capture those songs in the studio, yielding My ReGeneration the following year. After several concerts the ensemble resurfaced in 2014 with the second album The Further Adventures Of…, on which Elliott again honored Mott's Ian Hunter through a set of his compositions. A subsequent tour was documented and issued in 2017 under the title The Further Live Adventures Of…. Late in 2018 the group began tracking its third release, now concentrating on original songs rooted in the '70s rock that had shaped them, and This Is How We Roll appeared before the close of 2019.
