Dropbox came together in 2002 when Godsmack mastermind Sully Erna connected vocalist John Kosco with former Godsmack guitarist Lee Richards. The pair clicked immediately and began developing fresh songs alongside guitarist Joe Wilkinson and bassist Jim Preziosa. Erna then signed the group as the first act to his vanity label Realign, distributed through Universal, and booked them studio time under veteran producer Dave Jerden. Their self-titled debut arrived in April 2004, carrying a style rooted in hard rock and classic grunge textures. Although Erna performed most of the drumming on the album, Bob Jenkins came aboard in time to handle the spring and summer tour dates opening for Godsmack.
