Biography
Leading the big-beat bar band Dust Junkys, which carries old-school smarts, stands Nicky Lockett, formerly MC Tunes. This rapper had fronted 808 State on the Top 20 singles "The Only Rhyme That Bites" and "Tunes Splits the Atom." Lockett assembled Dust Junkys by 1995, enlisting Sam Brox for guitar, Steve OJ on bass, Mykey Wilson at the drums, and Ganiyu Pierre Gasper on turntables. While chasing a deal the group toured relentlessly and collected strong notices throughout their Manchester home base. Polydor finally signed them in 1998, after which Dust Junkys launched the single "What Time Is It?" and then issued their debut album Daddy's Blues late that year.
