Eclectic Method

London-based multimedia mash-up outfit Eclectic Method operates in much the same vein as Girl Talk, only with visuals standing in for the turntables, as demonstrated by their video mixtape We Are Not VJs. Ian Edgar, Geoff Gamlen, and Jonny Wilson launched their practice of merging footage with club rhythms in 2002 and issued the kinetic Bootleg Video Mix CD-ROM that same year. The resulting frenzy of mainstream clips, classic films, and general visual disorder led MTV Europe to hire the group for MTV MASH, a mash-up video program that ran on the network from 2003 to 2004. The DVD edition of We Are Not VJs appeared the following year, and their 2009 clip-filled tribute The Tarantino Mixtape quickly caught fire after surfacing on various video-sharing sites. In 2011 the trio teamed with Public Enemy leader Chuck D for the track “Outta Sight.”
