Biography
Born as Ed Urick in 1927, the pop vocalist Ed Ames was the youngest of four brothers who launched their joint singing career alongside Joe, Gene, and Vic during the late 1940s. Between 1954 and 1957 the Ames Brothers placed three singles inside the Top Ten and headlined their own television series in 1955. Following the quartet’s 1959 dissolution, Ames relocated to New York for acting study, performed in several stage productions, and later portrayed the Native American character Mingo on the series Daniel Boone. Returning to the studio in 1964, he accumulated seven chart entries, one of which was the Top Ten hit “My Cup Runneth Over” in 1967. A dozen albums appeared between the mid-1960s and early 1970s, among them The Best of Ed Ames (1969). Ames passed away at his Los Angeles, California residence on May 21, 2023.
