Eddie Albert's extensive screen career encompassed appearances in more than 75 motion pictures along with starring parts in numerous others, yet his lasting association remains with the role of Oliver Wendell Douglas, which he portrayed alongside Eva Gabor in the CBS sitcom Green Acres that ran from 1965 to 1971. Born on April 22, 1906, in Rock Island, IL, Albert made his screen debut in 1938. Peak success arrived during the mid-'50s through lead performances in Roman Holiday (1953) and Oklahoma! (1955). He launched a pop music venture in 1954 and issued multiple albums—several of them cut with his wife Margo—spanning the late '50s into the mid-'60s. The sole single to reach the charts, "Little Child," was recorded as a duet with Sondra Lee and peaked at number 56 in 1956. Albert had been briefly considered to host Candid Camera prior to Arthur Godfrey's appointment in 1960. In addition to Green Acres, he served as a regular cast member on seven further programs and accumulated credits across more than 50 series in total. His son Edward also built a career as a film and television actor.
