Biography
Though Eddie Higgins, a pianist rooted in bop, never rose to widespread prominence, fellow musicians have long held him in esteem. Raised in New England, he relocated to Chicago and worked across an array of settings before assuming an extended position as leader of the house trio at the London House from 1957 to 1969. He returned to Massachusetts in 1970, after which he worked as a freelancer, frequently supporting his wife, vocalist Meredith D'Ambrosio, and performing at jazz parties and festivals. Higgins has recorded as a leader for Replica in 1958, Vee-Jay in 1960, Atlantic, and Sunnyside, and he appeared as a sideman on a 1960 Vee-Jay session with Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter.
