Her foundational training came from her father, after which she pursued further studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. She took up the post of organist at the cathedral in Göteborg in 1867. The Leipzig school and the Scandinavian nationalism then prevalent helped shape her approach to composition. Beyond her organ pieces, she wrote for piano and orchestra and produced an opera that remained unstaged. Andree also took part in campaigns advancing women's rights.
