Eon emerged primarily through the efforts of Ian Loveday, quickly gaining traction in the acid-house club circuit thanks to trance tracks built around soundtrack samples, notably "Spice," "Basket Case," and "Light Colour Sound." From a young age Loveday had been drawn to electronics, launching his recording efforts in the mid-'80s with nothing more than a drum machine and keyboard. The first official Eon release, the 1988 single "Light Colour Sound," received crucial support from close friend Colin Faver, who featured it regularly on his shows for the pirate station Kiss FM. In 1992 the follow-up singles "Basket Case" and "Spice"—the latter drawing from Dune—achieved solid club success on both sides of the Atlantic, while the debut album Void Dweller stood out as one of the dance scene’s early, fully realized long-players.

Multiple cuts on that album gained from outside input, including contributions by Depth Charge’s J Saul Kane and Peter "Baby" Ford; in return, Loveday supplied production to a track on Ford’s Bford9. Additional work included remixes for Bizarre Inc.’s Energique, followed by further singles issued on Ford’s Trelik Records under the Minimal Man alias and on Kane’s Electron Industries imprint. Although no further albums appeared, Loveday kept issuing increasingly stripped-down, trance-oriented material.
