Ephraim Lewis, a British singer, entered the 1990s positioned among the standout prospects in pop-soul music. Elektra signed him in 1992, and that same year his sole album Skin appeared, prompting frequent comparisons to Seal alongside the release of the minor hit "Drowning in Your Eyes." In 1994 tragedy occurred when he fell from a four-story balcony in Los Angeles under mysterious circumstances, an event that official reports classified as a suicide.
