Before pursuing an independent path, Erika Luckett, the Mexican jazz musician and frequent global voyager, lent her versatile skills as a core participant in Wild Mango. Mexico marked her birthplace, yet Venezuela and Brazil hosted most of her childhood, during which she absorbed the distinct musical traditions surrounding her. As a teenager she relocated to France, busking in subways before gaining admission to the Berklee School of Music. After earning a film-scoring degree, she quickly accumulated multiple award nominations for her contributions to film and television projects. Luckett co-founded Wild Mango in San Francisco shortly thereafter, remaining with the jazz group for tours and recordings until 1999, when she shifted focus to solo work. That same year she issued Tinted Glass, fusing her Latin heritage with funk and jazz sensibilities while refining a percussive guitar technique. My Little Crime followed in 2001, showcasing more assured songwriting that drew notice from guitar publications and jazz listeners alike. The New Orleans Sessions surfaced in 2002, documenting her initial solo live performances captured across three Louisiana concerts.
