Originally formed in New York state during the closing years of the 1970s, the fusion ensemble known as the Everyman Band served initially as Lou Reed’s touring support unit. Its lineup consisted of David Torn on guitars, Marty Fogel on saxophones, Bruce Yaw on bass, and Michael Suchorsky on drums. In 1982 the quartet issued its self-titled debut album, whose sound was defined by Torn’s singular, densely effected guitar approach. Capitalizing on that distinctive texture, the group embarked on a widely praised European tour. Three years later it resurfaced with the more exploratory follow-up Without Warning.
