Biography
Evinha built her early reputation as a lead singer for Jovem Guarda while performing with Trio Esperança, later scoring solo successes through tracks such as “Teletema” (Antônio Adolfo/Tibério Gaspar), “Que Bandeira” (Marcos Valle/Paulo Sérgio Valle), “Como Vai Você” (Antônio Marcos), and “As Canções Que Você Fez Para Mim” (Roberto Carlos/Erasmo Carlos). From childhood onward she performed regularly alongside siblings Mário Correia José Maria and Regina Correia José Maria; the three established Trio Esperança in 1958, enjoyed widespread popularity throughout the Jovem Guarda era, and remain active to this day. She exited the ensemble in 1968 to launch a solo career, at which point her sister Marisa Correia José Maria stepped in as her replacement. The first solo hit arrived with “Casaco Marrom” (Guarabyra/Danilo Caymmi/Renato Corrêa). At the fourth International Song Festival (IV FIC) in 1969 she claimed first prize for her rendition of “Cantiga Por Luciana” (Paulinho Tapajós/Edmundo Souto). In 1977 she recorded alongside Paul Mauriat and, serving as the orchestra’s crooner, accompanied the ensemble on tours through Japan and China. During the 1990s she resumed her place in Trio Esperança and presented solo concerts across Brazil in 1999.
