Formed by Irish violinist Darragh Morgan, Israeli cellist Adi Tal, and Irish pianist Mary Dullea during their studies at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal College of Music between 1994 and 1995, the Irish-Israeli Fidelio Trio quickly established itself through an extensive schedule of concerts, radio broadcasts, and recordings throughout the U.K., Ireland, and further afield. The ensemble earned early recognition when it received the top ensemble award at the 1996 Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition, followed a year later by its first appearance at London's Southbank Centre, where it introduced British audiences to Toru Takemitsu's Between Tides. Although the group has performed repertoire stretching from Haydn through the early twentieth century, its programming has placed particular weight on contemporary works, a focus that has led to collaborations with composers such as Michael Nyman, whose complete piano trios the trio has recorded for the MN label, as well as Donnacha Dennehy, Toshio Hosokawa, Charles Wuorinen, Judith Weir, and Evan Ziporyn. Appearances at Wigmore Hall and the National Concert Hall, Dublin, have been complemented by international engagements in Paris, Florence, Venice, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Johannesburg, while radio features on BBC Radio 3, RTÉ Lyric FM, WNYC, and NPR have complemented regular festival appearances across the British Isles. The group's recorded output began in 2008 with Bulb, an album of Dennehy's music, after which it joined Delphian and issued a disc devoted to Icelandic composer Hafliði Hallgrímsson; subsequent releases have appeared on Métier, Naxos, and Divine Art, and in 2019 Resonus Classics released Fauré, Chausson, Satie: Piano Trios, which earned a Gramophone critic's choice citation.
