Similar in style to Bill Cosby, Flip Wilson ranked among the foremost comedians of the late '60s and early '70s, driven by repeated guest spots on The Ed Sullivan Show and numerous talk programs. Peak recognition came with the hit Flip Wilson Show, on which the performer regularly appeared as Geraldine, a hip, sassy Black woman. "The devil made me do it" emerged as a dominant catchphrase of the period. His recordings document both the comedian's formative phase and the height of the series' popularity, among them Flip; the Flip Wilson Show and Geraldine; and Don't Fight the Feeling, all containing authentic skits and show guests.
