Biography
An English composer and lutenist flourished around the close of the sixteenth century and the opening of the seventeenth. Despite the appearance of his name in the poor-rate books for 1583, Cutting earned recognition as a leading figure in lute composition, a status confirmed by the survival of his pieces in assorted manuscripts and anthologies. Enchanting, song-like lines distinguish the alamains, galliards, and pavans that bear his name.
