Fukumimi

Fukumimi functions as a fluid ensemble of standout talent assembled under the Office Augusta banner, drawing on the foremost exponents of present-day Japanese rock for each performance. Core participants drawn from the rock- and blues-leaning wing of the domestic pop sphere encompass Suga Shikao, Sukima Switch, Hajime Chitose, Kyoko, Yamazaki Masayoshi, COIL, and Araki Yuko. Although the musicians have appeared together at Augusta-based festivals beginning in 1998, their initial singles did not appear until 2002. A limited number of recordings have surfaced across subsequent years, yet devotees continue to anticipate each new offering from the supergroup, whose sessions maintain a consistently elevated standard as the participants blend seamlessly without deferring to one another’s stature or intruding on each other’s space. Despite the comparatively modest commercial footing of rock, blues, and jazz within Japan’s pop-dominated marketplace, the collective demonstrates that these styles retain capable advocates. In 2008 the band issued its debut full-length album, 10th Anniversary Songs, which surveyed the ensemble’s trajectory alongside its stylistic touchstones and reached the Oricon Top Ten.
