Funky

Funky serves as the professional moniker for Luis Raúl Marrero of Puerto Rico, who works as a singer, songwriter, and producer specializing in Latin Christian urban music. Since his teenage years Marrero had nurtured a strong interest in rap and freestyling, which led him in 1997 to form the duo Stylo alongside Julio Mujica and quickly obtain a recording contract. One year after that formation, his friend Vico C encouraged Marrero to pursue a Christian artist path. His initial step in that direction involved producing several tracks for Vico C’s Aquel Que No Había Muerto. Once he established the Funkytown Music label, Marrero continued producing material for fellow performers before launching his own solo trajectory with the 2001 album Funkytown. Across the following twenty years he strengthened his leading position in the field through additional successful releases, among them Los Vencedores in 2004 and Reset in 2011, along with live performances and joint projects involving other Christian artists such as Jesús Adrián Romero, Marcos Witt, Alex Campos, and Vico C. In 2024 he issued his eleventh studio album, Paréntesis.
