Lewis Charles, recording as Gage, produces jagged experimental club music and was born in London. Tracks began appearing online from him in 2010, followed by the 2011 release of his debut EP Sharp Eyes on L2S Recordings. That EP merged into the surrounding post-dubstep and U.K. garage releases of the period without notable impact, so several additional years passed before Gage established a singular voice. Alignment with the Bristol club night and label Crazylegs arrived alongside his creation of intense, remarkable grime instrumentals, among them the widely praised 2014 singles "Telo" and "Bad Bitch," the latter driven by over-the-top rapping from Philadelphia MC Kevin JZ Prodigy. Further intensification came through 2015 remixes for Mr. Mitch and dJJ, while the 2016 EP Mercury delivered some of his most bracing material to date.
