Galantis operates as an electronic dance music act with pronounced pop sensibilities, led by Christian Karlsson, better known as Bloodshy from Miike Snow. From the early 2010s onward the project maintained a steady release schedule that produced the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated “Runaway (U & I)” together with the Gold-certified “Peanut Butter Jelly,” both taken from Pharmacy, the 2015 set that reached number one on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and the platinum “No Money” drawn from the 2017 follow-up The Aviary. In 2020 the act registered another Top Five placement on the U.S. dance charts with Church, then ascended to the summit of the U.K. dance charts the next year with “Heartbreak Anthem,” which featured David Guetta and Little Mix. Karlsson maintained outside partnerships with Craig David, Icona Pop, and Hayley Kiyoko while issuing the 2023 single “Bang Bang! (My Neurodivergent Anthem).”
The project originated as a duo after Karlsson, whose credits include Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” encountered Linus Eklöw, the force behind Icona Pop’s “I Love It,” at Stockholm’s Robotberget studio in 2007. Their shared enthusiasm for an emotionally resonant strain of EDM that still honored pop’s intensity led them to establish a workspace on the Stockholm archipelago in the Baltic Sea, where they recorded and issued the Atlantic single “Smile” toward the end of 2013. The Grammy-nominated “Runaway (U & I)” appeared the following year, and the debut album Pharmacy arrived in 2015, introducing the additional singles “Gold Dust” and “Peanut Butter Jelly.”
In 2016 Galantis unveiled “No Money,” their first track to enter the Billboard Hot 100, and also released “Love on Me” with Australian DJ Hook N Sling; the next year they supplied a remix of singer/songwriter/pianist Wrabel’s “Bloodstain.” Further singles such as “Hunter,” “True Feeling,” and “Girls on Boys” featuring Rozes preceded the September arrival of the sophomore album The Aviary, which charted respectably on the Billboard Top 200. Around that period Eklöw withdrew from active participation, although he continued to join Karlsson for performances and video appearances until the early 2020s.
Throughout 2018 the act distributed singles including “Spaceship” with Uffie and “Satisfied” with MAX. The subsequent year brought further collaborations, among them “Bones” with OneRepublic, “I Found U” with Passion Pit, and “Faith” with Dolly Parton. When Church appeared in January 2020 most of its tracks had already surfaced, yet the third album assembled the nine prior singles plus new material featuring John Newman, Bali Bandits, and additional guests. In 2021 the project claimed a number-one U.K. dance hit with “Heartbreak Anthem” alongside David Guetta and Little Mix, then issued “Dandelion” with JVKE and “Alien” with Lucas & Steve and ILIRA.
Several more singles emerged in 2022, among them “Run” with Becky Hill, a cover of Roxette’s “Fading Like a Flower,” “DNA” with Craig David, and “Damn (You’ve Got Me Saying)” with Guetta and MNEK. By then operating primarily as a Karlsson solo venture, Galantis opened 2023 with “Hooked (Hot Stuff)” featuring RIKA, followed by the Icona Pop track “I Want You,” “Hungry Heart” with Steve Aoki and Hayley Kiyoko, “Fool 4 U” with JVKE and Enisa, and the June arrival of “Bang Bang! (My Neurodivergent Anthem).”
