Biography
Geoff Achison, born in Australia, established a strong standing in the mid-'90s among the leading young blues guitarists after capturing the Albert King Award for most promising guitarist in 1995, an achievement that secured an endorsement arrangement with Gibson Guitars. His birthplace was Victoria, and he later moved to Melbourne to study the blues under local players. Big Machine marked his first released recording in 1994 and received enthusiastic responses from both reviewers and audiences. The Albert King Award arrived at the 12th Annual International Blues Talent Competition in Memphis, after which he issued the solo acoustic album Mystery Train and collected further critical praise. Gettin' Evil arrived in 1999 with backing from his U.S. touring band the Soul Diggers, while Live at St. Andrews and Souldiggin' reached the U.K. over the subsequent two years, the latter issued as a live studio recording. Achison sustained a demanding touring pace that took him across the States for part of 2000 alongside Hot Tuna, and he has also instructed students at Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Guitar Ranch.
