Biography
Australia's Teskey Brothers, featuring guitarist and vocalist Josh Teskey alongside lead guitarist Sam Teskey, deliver a gritty fusion of rock-infused blues and R&B. Their early momentum stemmed from street-level shows throughout the late 2000s, followed by broader recognition in 2017 once their debut full-length, Half Mile Harvest, entered the Australian Top 20. Further honors came via the 2019 follow-up Run Home Slow, which climbed to number two on the domestic album chart and collected three ARIA Music Awards. Their first chart-topping release arrived with 2020's Live at the Forum, securing another ARIA for Best Blues and Roots Album. Building on that achievement, they collaborated with Orchestra Victoria on the 2021 concert set Live at Hamer Hall, before unveiling their next studio effort, The Winding Way, in 2023.
As teenagers, brothers Josh and Sam began performing together by busking across Melbourne. By 2008 they had recruited bassist Brendon Love and drummer Liam Gough, childhood friends who shared an affinity for Peter Green, the Animals, Percy Sledge, and similar artists. Steady pub performances helped cultivate an audience for their raw blend of rock, blues, and R&B, while serving as the backing ensemble for singer Ella Thompson added further seasoning. Eventually the group aligned with Glassnote Records and released Half Mile Harvest in 2017, which peaked at number 18 on the ARIA chart.
Run Home Slow emerged in 2019, propelled by the tracks "Hold Me" and "So Caught Up"; it earned three ARIA trophies, among them Best Blues and Roots Album. The live album Live at the Forum then delivered the band's initial Australian number one in 2020 and brought their ARIA total to four, including a second win in the blues category. Another concert document, Live at Hamer Hall with Orchestra Victoria, followed in 2021. Love and Gough exited the following year, leaving Josh and Sam to continue as a duo. In June 2023 they issued their third studio album, The Winding Way, recorded in Sydney under producer Eric J. Dubowsky, whose prior credits include Louis the Child, ODESZA, and Hamish Anderson. The project expanded their classic soul approach with richer arrangements, highlighted by the single "Oceans of Emotions."
