Georges Delerue

Georges Delerue, a composer from France specializing in films, received training from the renowned Darius Milhaud, who himself worked extensively in cinema. Rather than focusing on creating popular theme tunes, Delerue prioritized the creation of atmospheric elements in his work, ultimately providing musical scores for more than 150 movies. Within France, his homeland, he crafted compositions for acclaimed examples of the New Wave movement, including Hiroshima Mon Amour from 1959, Shoot the Piano Player in 1960, and Jules et Jim released in 1961. His professional activities extended with equal intensity to both England and the United States, where he contributed to projects such as A Man for All Seasons in 1966, Anne of a Thousand Days during 1969, Day of the Dolphin from 1973, A Little Romance in 1979, Platoon from 1986, and Steel Magnolias in 1989. Throughout his extensive professional life, Delerue also composed for theatrical productions and television programs. The last musical score he completed was intended for the unusual romantic comedy from America titled Joe Versus the Volcano, which came out in 1990.
