Born on 12 September 1972 in London, England, into a household steeped in music where his father performed opera and pursued jazz with equal passion, Presencer began on piano before turning to trumpet. He first honed his skills by sitting in at a jazz club run by his father, then strengthened them through membership in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. By the late 1980s he had joined the quartet led by Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, after which he spent the 1990s and the opening years of the following decade working steadily as a sideman with a wide array of British, American and European bandleaders.

Among the many artists with whom he has appeared are Louis Bellson, Conte Candoli, John Dankworth, Roy Hargrove, Shorty Rogers, Ronnie Scott, Martin Taylor, Joe Temperley, Stan Tracey and Bill Watrous; the fact that several of these figures are themselves trumpet players underscores the esteem in which he is held. Presencer also directs his own small ensembles and, beyond studio dates, has performed on television, notably as a member of the on-screen band in the 1992 Michael Caine film Blue Ice. That same year he received the Rising British Jazz Star Award, recognition borne out by the quality of his later performances. In addition to his own projects he has co-led a fine small group with Tony Coe. A sparkling and inventive soloist rooted in the bop and post-bop idioms, he produces a clear, ringing tone when playing flügelhorn.
