Renowned among contemporary figures in MPB for his skills as both arranger and pianist, Gilson Peranzzetta received classical instruction from childhood onward while drawing strong inspiration from jazz and Brazilian instrumental traditions. Numerous artists have interpreted his compositions, among them Djavan, Edu Lobo, Leny Andrade, Sarah Vaughan, George Benson, Dianne Schurr, Quincy Jones, Toots Thielemans, and Shirley Horn. Extensive tours have taken him across the U.S., Europe, and Japan. Among his classical works stand the suites "Miragem," scored for piano and orchestra, along with "Metamorfose," written for piano and string quartet. During the '60s he belonged to Samba Jazz and performed alongside Taiguara. European travels followed with Central do Brasil, after which he served for several years as arranger and pianist to Ivan Lins. A deep connection with guitarist Sebastião Tapajós produced their standout duo recording, Afinidades.
