Born and raised in Belo Horizonte, Lô Borges grew up alongside the future Clube da Esquina figures Milton Nascimento, Wagner Tiso, Toninho Horta, and others. As a central member of the collective, he composed the hits “Um Girassol Da Cor Do Seu Cabelo” and “Paisagem Da Janela,” later interpreted by Nascimento, Horta, and additional leading artists. At age 19 Borges joined Nascimento’s Clube da Esquina LP, co-writing the title track as well as “O Trem Azul,” “Tudo Que Você Podia Ser,” and “Nuvem Cigana.” His first solo album, Lô Borges, arrived in 1973; A Via Láctea followed in 1979 and Os Borges in 1980. Two further Borges pieces, “Ruas da Cidade” and “Pão e Água,” appeared on Nascimento’s Clube da Esquina 2 in 1978. He continued releasing solo work with Nuvem Cigana (1982), Sonho Real (1984), Solo (1987), and Meu Filme (1996).
