Giorgio Tuma first encountered music in Lecce, Italy, where the Clash and later Stereolab shaped his particular take on hard-edged and progressive rock. His gentler tastes encompass Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Tim Hardin, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Marcos Valle, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and Broadway musicals. Drawing on this range of sources, he started writing songs whose lyrics weave childhood recollections together with imagery from fairs, roller coasters, and circuses. The 2009 release My Vocalese Fun Fair on the Spanish label Elefant captures these varied strands. His earlier independent album, Uncolored: Swing 'n' Pop Around Rose, issued in 2005 by the Italian imprint L'Amico Immaginario, leaned more toward Brazilian jazz. For live performances he is joined by the ensemble Os Tumantes, whose name playfully echoes the South American group Os Mutantes; the lineup features drummer and percussionist Alessio Borgia, keyboardist Simona Colomba, guitarist and vocalist Matilde De Rubertism, bassist Massimiliano Giannuzzi, second guitarist Salvatore Papa, and flutist Marco Tuma, Tuma’s brother. Subsequent work brought a collaboration with the Italian duo Girl with the Gun, comprising Matilde Davoli and Populous, on their debut album for Disastro Records, to which he contributed two songs. Animator Emanuele Kabu joined forces with Tuma to create a video for the track “Let's Make Stevens Cake!” Tuma’s second album, In the Morning We'll Meet, appeared on Elefant in May 2011.
