Biography
Hailing from Orange County, the punk trio Girl Tears favors extremely short tracks that rarely exceed sixty seconds and infuses its three-chord punk style with a heavy dose of gloom. Guitarist and vocalist Kam Andresen, bassist Tristan Ellis, and drummer Sal Gabriel had all been members of Sweet Valley Slumber Party before opting to pursue a harder-edged punk direction. Their debut album Tension appeared on Lolipop Records and drew the attention of Captured Tracks founder Mike Sniper, who signed the group to the label’s Sinderlyn imprint and reissued the record in September 2014. Once the album was out, the band embarked on an extensive tour that included more than one hundred performances in settings ranging from art spaces and backyards to clubs, sharpening their already concise sound and building resilience. They paused long enough to cut the 2015 single “No Faith”/“Void,” then delivered their second full-length, the intense and brisk Woke Against the Tide, via Sinderlyn in October 2016.
