Formed in Bristol, England, Glaxo Babies operated as a post-punk ensemble. The original lineup featured vocalist Rob Chapman alongside guitarist and vocalist Dan Catsis, formerly of The Pop Group, drummer Geoff Alsopp, and bassist Tom Nichols. Their first release arrived in 1979 as the EP This Is Your Life. Ahead of the Christine Keeler single issued months afterward, the configuration shifted when Charles Llewelyn replaced Alsopp on drums and Tony Wrafter, another ex-Pop Group member, joined on saxophone. After Chapman exited, the remaining musicians tracked their entire debut album Nine Months to the Disco for Heartbeat in 1980 during a single day. The Limited Entertainment EP followed later that year once the band aligned temporarily with the Y label. Put Me on the Guest List, also from 1980, assembled demo recordings from the Chapman period. The group evidently dissolved sometime after that release, prompting Catsis and Wrafter to join Maximum Joy. In the mid-1980s Chapman and Catsis revived Glaxo Babies with Llewelyn returning on drums, an incarnation that persisted for several years and eventually supplied tracks for the compilation The Porlock Factor: Psych Drums and Other Schemes 1985-1990.
