Biography
Although his vocal authority in R&B and urban music never reached the level he commanded during his gospel years, Glenn Jones nevertheless achieved a lasting move into secular repertoire. Norman Connors facilitated the change in 1980 by placing him on a track from the album Take It to the Limit. Jones subsequently toured alongside Connors and contributed vocals to Mr. C. After signing with RCA in 1983, he released a mini-album that yielded the Top 30 R&B single “I Am Somebody.” The follow-up LP Finesse, helmed by Leon Sylvers, supplied his first authentic breakthrough: the number-three R&B hit “Show Me.” A duet with Dionne Warwick became the theme for the 1984 television series Finder of Lost Loves. He also recorded “Talk Me into It” for the film Youngblood. Departing RCA for Jive in 1987, Jones scored another substantial success when “We’ve Only Just Begun (The Romance Is Not Over)” peaked at number two on the R&B chart that year. He remained with Jive through 1992, then moved to Atlantic for Here I Go Again; Here I Am appeared two years later, and It’s Time arrived in 1998.
