Formed in London during the early 1980s, Loose Ends ranked among Britain’s foremost dance and urban contemporary trios. Originally operating as Loose End, the lineup comprised Carl McIntosh, Jane Eugene, and Steve Nichol. Virgin secured the group’s contract in 1981, after which Chris and Eddie Amoo of the Real Thing supplied material for their first recording. The ensemble adopted the name Loose Ends in 1983 and entered a U.S. agreement with MCA the next year. In 1985 the single “Hanging on a String (Contemplating)” ascended to the summit of the R&B charts; the same accomplishment followed in 1986 with “Slow Down.” Their final hit, “Watching You,” climbed to number two in 1988. Ahead of the 1990 release Look How Long the roster was reconfigured, leaving McIntosh joined by Linda Carriere and Sunay Suleyman. McIntosh later extended his production work to several acts, most notably Caron Wheeler.
