Biography
Gerald Levert, offspring of O'Jays originator Eddie Levert, initiated his recording path in the middle of the 1980s by fronting the trio LeVert. Fellow members included Sean Levert, another son of Eddie, along with Marc Gordon, and the unit delivered well-received titles such as I Get Hot in 1985, Bloodline in 1986 that yielded the chart-topping single “Pop Pop Pop Goes My Mind,” The Big Throwdown in 1987, and Just Coolin’ in 1988, the final pair of which attained gold status. During the 1990s Gerald divided his efforts between LeVert and an expanding solo trajectory that encompassed the joint effort Father and Son with his father, while the group continued issuing further successful projects including Rope a Dope Style in 1990, For Real Tho’ in 1993, and Whole Scenario in 1997. Rhino Records issued the 14-track hits overview The Best Of in 2001.
