Biography
A Southwestern R&B ensemble, Hi-Five achieved prominence by refreshing sonic traits drawn from the Jackson 5 and New Edition. The five-piece act made its Jive debut in 1990 via a self-titled album that included the Top Ten pop single "I Can't Wait Another Minute" alongside the chart-topping "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)." Their 1992 LP Keep It Goin' On yielded yet another Top Ten pop entry, "She's Playing Hard to Get." Following the 1993 appearance of Faithful, the original lineup dissolved, yet Thompson later reassembled Hi-Five with fresh personnel and issued The Return on his N'Depth imprint slightly more than ten years afterward. Thompson passed away in his native Waco, Texas, on June 1, 2007, after inhaling Freon. Three founding members joined by two newcomers revived the group and delivered the 2012 single "Favorite Girl," sustaining live appearances and further recordings.
