Immature

In the early 1990s, producer and mentor Chris Stokes assembled the Los Angeles R&B trio Immature around pre-teen performers Marques "Batman" Houston, Jerome "Romeo" Jones, and Kelton "LDB" Kessee, each barely ten years old. Their 1992 Virgin debut On Our Worst Behavior yielded the modest R&B single "Tear It Up," featured in the animated film Bebe's Kids. Switching to MCA, the group released Playtyme Is Over in 1994 and notched pop hits with "Never Lie" and "Constantly," earning the album gold status. They also appeared in the Kid 'n Play movie House Party 3. Their third album We Got It performed strongly even though no single reached the Top 40, with "Feel the Funk" from Dangerous Minds peaking at number 46 as the nearest approach. On the fourth LP The Journey, Immature considered adopting the name Mature but instead channeled the evolution solely into the music itself; the set succeeded on the R&B charts without crossing over to pop. For 1999's Introducing IMx they adopted the new moniker IMx, yet the sonic direction remained largely unchanged. A greatest-hits collection arrived in February 2001.
