Biography
Formed in Shreveport, Louisiana, the vocal quartet Profyle united two brothers with their cousins, all of whom had grown up side by side and taken inspiration from the achievements and constructive outlook of ensembles such as Boyz II Men. Their initial forays onto the stage came through appearances at area talent contests, and one such outing drew the notice of a promoter who arranged an introduction to Musa Moore, the individual who would later serve as their manager. Moore arranged for the quartet to cut a demonstration recording alongside producer V. Jeffrey Smith, after which the material reached Kedar Massenburg, then president of Motown Records, prompting him to extend a recording agreement to Profyle. The group’s first album, Whispers in the Dark, appeared in 1999.
