Hailing from New York City, Case launched his professional path in the 1990s by contributing backing vocals to recordings from major R&B figures, among them Usher. Midway through the decade he secured a contract with Def Jam, which yielded his self-titled debut album in 1996, followed by Personal Conversation in 1999 and Open Letter in 2001. Every track on the last of these was conceived with a particular listener in mind, including “A Song for Skye,” written for his daughter, and the Stevie Wonder-inspired cuts “Love of My Life” and “Shine.” The sessions featured production from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis along with Tim & Bob. In 2004 Case sought release from his Def Jam agreement so he could found his own imprint, Indigo Blue. Its first project appeared in 2009 as The Rose Experience. He next moved to Real Talk Entertainment for the 2010 album Here, My Love before landing at eOne, which released Heaven’s Door in 2015.
