Emerging from Honolulu as one of the earliest groups to carry Hawaiian reggae worldwide, the Green formed as a six-piece ensemble after cousins Caleb Keolanui and JP Kennedy disbanded their prior project, Next Generation, and brought in Ikaika Antone along with Zion Thompson. Their self-titled debut surfaced in 2010 and earned Best Reggae Album honors from digital voters that year before claiming the same title at Hawaii’s 2011 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. The following year brought both the EP Love & Affection and the album Ways & Means on the Easy Star imprint. Danny Kalb, a frequent collaborator with Jack Johnson, handled production on the 2013 release Hawai'i '13. In September 2017 the band issued the single “Marching Orders” featuring dancehall superstar Busy Signal, then delivered their fourth studio album, also titled Marching Orders, the next month. The group resurfaced in 2019 with the LP Black & White and the standalone single “Criaturas,” which included Harlem Spartans and Jalil.
