Grupo Maravilla De Robin Revilla

Grupo Maravilla de Robin Revilla helped define the second wave of cumbia sonidera that rose to prominence across Mexico by originating the "Poblano style" in Puebla, a sound built around synthesizers paired with psychedelic guitars and effects. Alongside them came other leading acts such as Grupo Soñador, Los de Akino, and Los Papis. Without their input the electro cumbia that followed in the twenty-first century would almost certainly have taken a different shape. Their recordings reached charts throughout Latin America and Europe, especially in France, while their animated live performances filled houses from Mexico City to New York City and across the Atlantic.

Vocalist, impresario, and DJ Robin Revilla assembled the octet in autumn 1998; three months later the group was already on tour in Argentina. They refined their approach through club dates, parties, and festivals for several years before entering the studio in 2003 for the self-titled debut on the Lidares label and the joint effort Duelo de Titanes Sonideros with Los Papis and R.A. 7. The 2005 album Cosas del Amor broke through when DJs in Puebla and farther along the Gulf and Pacific coasts began playing it. Later releases—El Chave del Ocho, Vuela Mariposa, Mariantia, Tu Barca, Fin de Milenio, and Amor Colegial—performed as strongly or better, furnishing fresh material for the stage show. Singles such as "Tu Barca," "Ring Pumn Pin," "La Fiesta Pagana," "Como Hacer Para Olvidarte," "La Cumbia del Chavo del Ocho," "Molinos de Viento," "Baja Baja," and "Tu Seras Mi Baby" received heavy airplay and appeared in clubs across Mexico, at Ibiza events, in Germany and Japan, and at nightlife spots in New York and Chicago. With the arrival of downloads, videos, and streaming, the band issued numerous clips, placed tracks and catalog albums online, and contributed to various-artist cumbia collections. In 2016 they released the futuristic, dark, and grooving Ruta 66.
