Hip Hop Boobly Show

For years, vibrant programming that wove hip-hop into educational fare had been missing from children’s media. Yo Gabba Gabba! filled the gap when it premiered in 2007. The Hip Hop Boobly Show now arrives with its own roster of animated figures who prioritize practical lessons on everyday essentials over any streetwise lessons.

Kerry Douglas, whose BlackSmoke label has issued recordings by James Fortune and Earnest Pugh, created the series and served as co-writer. Its animated segments follow Hip Hop Boobly, best friend Hip Hop Mimi, teacher Rockstar Kimmy, teenaged Hip Hop Boom, and the sage “O.G.” Dezzio through assorted musical escapades.

The effort began in earnest with the 2023 single “ABCs,” after which Learning Rhymes, Vol. 1 appeared the next year and supplied memorable rhymes for the days of the week, months of the year, the five senses, and additional fundamentals. Two EPs quickly appeared: Boobly Mix, Vol. 1 offered new tracks on etiquette and encouragement alongside a fresh version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” while Boobly Mix, Vol. 2, issued in June 2024, presented originals about Father’s Day, school graduation, and Juneteenth.
