Emerging from Los Angeles as a vocal trio, the Hues Corporation scored a pair of major successes during the mid-'70s, most prominently with the 1974 RCA release "Rock the Boat." Although the track leaned toward breezy pop, it propelled the group to number two on the R&B side and delivered their only number-one pop hit. Their follow-up, "Rockin' Soul," climbed to number six on the R&B charts and number 18 on the pop charts. The subsequent year brought one last R&B entry, "Love Corporation," which peaked at number 15, yet signs of waning public interest in the material were already clear. Their final single, "I Caught Your Act," appeared in 1977. The original members were H. Ann Kelley, Flemming Williams, and Bernard "St. Clair Lee" Henderson. Tom Brown stepped in for Williams once "Rock the Boat" had broken through, only to be succeeded by Karl Russell in 1975.
