Biography
Born May 18, 1962, in Swansea, Wales, Huw Warren is a Welsh jazz pianist and composer whose output traverses and blends numerous musical styles. He first encountered music as a cellist in a youth orchestra, later shifting to organ and ultimately devoting his attention to piano. During 1980 he trained with experimental pianist John Tilbury at Goldsmiths, University of London, participating in the surrounding jazz and avant-garde circles; his studies then continued at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1983 and 1984. With Mark Lockheart, Dudley Phillips, and Martin France he established the jazz quartet Perfect Houseplants, which issued five albums on assorted labels. He maintained an extended association with English singer June Tabor, acting as arranger and musical director and thereby contributing to roughly ten albums across subsequent years, while also partnering with Maria Lamburn on three jointly produced releases.
