Biography
Icky Blossoms fuse ominous synth textures, propulsive rhythms, and confident hooks that suit both club nights and workout sessions equally well. The trio came together in Omaha, Nebraska during 2011 when singer and synth player Sarah Bohling joined forces with singer and multi-instrumentalists Derek Pressnall and Nik Fackler, the latter known to film enthusiasts as the director of the Independent Spirit-nominated Lovely, Still. The three had crossed paths via the local arts community and through Pressnall’s side project Flowers Forever, which grew out of his work with Tilly and the Wall. Early in 2012 the group inked a deal with Saddle Creek, and the label issued their self-titled debut full-length that July. TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek handled production, and the record included the track “Babes,” which Rolling Stone hailed as a “girl-power dance anthem.” While tracking at ARC Studios in Omaha, the band again enlisted Mike Mogis, resulting in the May 2015 release of their second album, Mask.
