James Konwinski, who performs using only the initial of his surname, entered the world as part of a sizable household in northern Michigan. He composed his debut song at twelve yet waited until after high school to pick up the guitar. During college he performed with rock groups; once he earned his degree, however, he relocated to California, started a family, and supported them through an assortment of unrelated occupations. Knee surgery in 1996 prompted him to resume songwriting, and he soon accumulated enough material to play for his daughter’s kindergarten class. Encouraged by the warm reception, the artist released the 1998 album A Giggle Can Wiggle Its Way Through a Wall, which received the Parent’s Choice Silver Honor Award, and followed it in 2002 with Good Morning Sun Goodnight Moon.
