Jamie Baum stands out as a striking improviser whose 1997 GM album Sight Unheard broadened her reach among jazz listeners. She completed studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, working under Dave Liebman, Richie Beirach, Hubert Laws, Jaki Byard and additional mentors. Since settling in New York in the mid-1980s she has collaborated with leading players such as Paul Motian, Randy Brecker, George Russell, John Abercrombie, Kenny Werner, Fred Hersch, Tom Harrell, Kenny Barron and Dave Douglas. Her first leader date, Undercurrents on the German Konnex imprint, preceded sideman appearances with Ed Jackson and Dave Binney, after which she recorded the acclaimed GM release.
