Biography
A skilled pianist rooted in the bop tradition, Jan Lundgren has made multiple trips to the United States beginning in the mid-'90s, steadily building a formidable reputation along the way. While still immersed in rigorous classical piano studies, he was already performing jazz in local settings, and by age twenty he had started collaborating with Arne Domnérus and Putte Wickman. Through these experiences he gained considerable insight by backing a range of American artists who came through town, among them Herb Geller, Johnny Griffin, and Mark Murphy. His first recording as a leader appeared in 1994 on the Four Leaf Clover imprint. Thereafter he cut individual sessions with Herb Geller and Bill Perkins for Fresh Sound while also helming additional projects for Alfa and Four Leaf Clover.
