Jaojoby, born Jaojoby Eusebe, has elevated the music of his native Madagascar to global recognition by pairing a direct vocal delivery with driving beats shaped by rock and roll and saleg, the national dance beat of Madagascar. He began his career in 1970 by winning first place on a Madegascan television program comparable to Star Search, and he has sustained a devoted audience ever since through his infectious dance music.
